Honeywell and Google Cloud offer AI agents for industrial sector
Operational technology (OT) specialist Honeywell and Google Cloud have launched an AI agent for the industrial sector, claiming it will offer streamlined autonomous operations and help tackle labour shortages.
The firms say that the AI agent will connect assets, people, and processes to provide safer operations for the industrial sector.
It will leverage Google Cloud’s AI builder, Vertex AI, alongside its generative AI solution Gemini and the data set from Honeywell’s IoT platform, Forge.
This will enable Honeywell’s customers to automate tasks for engineers, warehouse workers, and technicians, among other uses, to be available in 2025.
Additionally, technicians in the industrial sector can use the AI agent to help resolve maintenance issues.
For instance, a technician could ask: “How do I replace the input/output module?” or “Why is my system making this sound?”. Users can input various data types such as images, videos, text and sensor readings which will help provide more accurate answers, claims Honeywell.
“The path to autonomy requires assets working harder, people working smarter and processes working more efficiently,” said Vimal Kapur, chairman and CEO of Honeywell.
“With Gemini on Vertex AI, combined with Honeywell’s industrial data and expertise, we’re creating new opportunities to optimise processes, empower workforces and drive meaningful business outcomes for industrial organisations worldwide,” added CEO of Google Cloud, Thomas Kurian.
Honeywell said in its announcement that with the AI agent, it aims to help customers reduce maintenance costs, increase operational productivity, and “upskill employees.”
According to Honeywell’s 2024 Industrial AI Insights report, more than two-thirds of industrial AI leaders believe their companies are early adopters of AI, yet only 17% have fully launched their initial AI plans.
The partnership will also see the integration of Google Threat Intelligence into Honeywell’s cybersecurity products, which it says will help enhance threat detection and protect global infrastructure for industrial customers.
